      Since the dawn of time, monsters and humans have clashed. Monsters saw humans merely as prey and play things to entertain themselves. The humans, naturally, did not appreciate this. Both believed they were superior to the other; monsters for their strength and unique abilities, and humans for their lack of banes ( see Modern Society ) and cunning. Through the ages they fought each other and hunted each other until inevitably the tide turned to favor one side: the humans.

 

      Humans had a growing knowledge of monster's weaknesses and eagerly took advantage of their shortcomings. By the dark ages, monsterkind's numbers had dwindled significantly. Monsters were forced to go into hiding and live their lives in t darkest of shadows for safety. They used their magic to blend in with human society or chose to abandon it altogether. Some formed whole societies separate from humanity at the farthest reaches of the world. For a thousand years the monsters were quiet. Humanity began to forget about the ever-looming threat they had once posed, but never forgot their hatred for them.

 

      By the 1500's, monsterkind was getting antsy. They grew tired of their hideaways and quietly and carefully began to creep back out into the world to make themselves known once again. Their ever dwindling numbers and the human's surprising power had humbled them, and many reach out into the world daring to hope for peace between the species. Their initial attempts utterly failed. It would take until the early 1900's to fully and tensely integrate into modern society, and thus an uneasy truce was made between humankind and monsterkind.

      In modern times, opinions of monsters are wildly varied amongst humans, and the feelings are mutual within the monster community about humans. Despite this, they have managed to tolerate each other and find a rare peace that had until recently not been thought possible. There is an unspoken understanding that any disturbance of that peace would have dire consequences.

 

Summary: This takes place in a universe separate from our own where monsters have always existed, and humans have always been aware of them. Monsters and humans have always clashed against one another, but have in recent times made a tense truce to coexist peacefully.
